D&RGW 315: The 315 is making limited runs with their newly-restored locomotive and this is the only time and place she will be running in 2010! She will be pulling a mixed consist and a Pullman Green consist resembling an excursion from the 1940s! Don't miss it! Click here for more information on the history and restoration of the D&RGW 315.
RGS Galloping Goose #5: "Even though originally built from Buicks and
Pierce Arrows, the word “dignified” never seems to have been included in their
description, but they were serviceable and definitely fit their purpose.
Traveling through the countryside with a horn that could easily be mistaken for
the call of a real goose, they were said to have “waddled” down the uneven,
poorly maintained tracks of the cash-strapped Rio Grande Southern." Click here to read Larry Spencer's full story of the RGS Galloping Goose #5!
Eureka & Palisade #4:
The wood-burning E&P #4 is one of the Eureka & Palisade Railroad's only surviving steam locomotives and is on the US National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest operable narrow gauge 4-4-0 in the U.S.
The wood-burning locomotive has been restored by Dan and Ditty Markoff to its original appearance when it
left Baldwin in 1875. It sports a "Russia iron" boiler jacket, polished brass bands, gold
filigree, varnished oak, with red and gold trim.
Over the next six months, a total of four cars, three
passenger cars and one mail-baggage car from the 1880’s will be painted to
represent a 1930’s-40’s era scheme. This
set of cars will make their debut behind locomotive 315 at this year’s 12th
Annual Railfest in August. The green
coaches will be further featured in a series of Photo Specials and private
charter trains throughout the fall of 2010 and winter of 2011. The cars will stay green for a period of 12
months. Private charter operators
looking for a period train representing those decades are encouraged to contact
the railroad for more information.
This will be the
first time that an entire train-set of cars has been back-dated. The cars will not run on regularly scheduled
trains. The D&SNG will post
schedules for these events in the coming weeks. Early reservations are highly recommended as
these trips are expected to sell out quickly!
