Rock Slide - August 02, 2011

Monsoon-like rains in the upper Animas Canyon led to large rock slides on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 that closed the line to Silverton. D&SNGR track crews have approached the slide areas with heavy equipment from the north and the south to clear the debris and make any necessary track repairs.

The D&SNGRR continues to offer round trip passenger service to Cascade Canyon Wye as well as adventure and tour packages. Cascade Canyon is 26 miles from Durango and is a wilderness area. There is a covered pavilion and picnic table along the river and a nature trail to a footbridge over the river. Passengers get to spend about 45 minutes at Cascade Canyon which is also the terminus of our Winter Train excursions.

Food and beverage concessions are available on board as well as restrooms.
