Experience the world famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's iconic canyon views along the highline in just over 2 hours. If you are looking for an unforgettable train adventure with incredible geological features and fantastic scenery that is downright jaw-dropping, look no further than these train excursions departing from Rockwood Station (located 18 miles north of Durango) traveling deep into the wilderness unaccessible by any roads. 


You will board the train at Rockwood Station for your journey to Cascade Canyon.  Sit back, relax and expect to be amazed as you wind through steep mountain canyons and the high mountain curves of the pristine San Juan National Forest.

Driving Directions To Rockwood Station:  Rockwood Station is located on County Road 200, 18 miles north of Durango.  From Durango, travel north on US Highway 550 and look for signage directing you to turn right on County Road 200 where you will travel approximately 1 mile to Rockwood Station and adjacent parking area. If driving south from Silverton, turn left on CR 200 just south of the Tamarron/Glacier Club entrance.

This excursion does not have a layover at Cascade Canyon.

The wearing of masks is required per executive order beginning 7/17/20.  

In accordance with the Colorado Executive Order; D&SNG must require masks to be worn for all guests over the age of 10 years old in order to ride the train or to be anywhere on the property at Rockwood Station, Durango depot, museum, and during yard tours. Our employees are required to ensure the compliance of the executive order for all guests. We thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance in keeping our guests and employees safe and remaining compliant with our state mandates. For guests who do not have masks, D&SNG is selling masks in the concession car at Rockwood Station, as well as the Durango depot.

 Train Seating Options:   Your seating choices include traveling in a historic restoration coach or in an open-air gondola.

Except for special events, children under 4 years old not occupying a seat ride FREE.

Pre-Paid Parking Passes are REQUIRED for parking at Rockwood Station due to limited spaces.  Parking Passes are available online. Cost is $8.  If you are driving to Rockwood, you must reserve parking in advance.  Due to touchless payment, you will not be able to pay for parking the day of excursion. There are no off-property or other public spaces available for parking at Rockwood. 

There will be a stationary concession car located at Rockwood Station but there will not be a concession car on the train.
No bus service available from Durango.  No wilderness access will be provided off of this departure.

Important Note:  There is no smoking anywhere at the Rockwood Station except in a closed personal vehicle.  And once guests board the train, there is no smoking during the entire trip.

Receive a 10% discount on Gift Shop purchases located in the Durango Depot when you visit within 3 days of your train excursion and present your train ticket. Open 7am-4pm 7 Days a Week.
