Cascade Canyon Express – Steam excursions depart from Rockwood Station, located 18-miles north of Durango, at 878 County Road 200, Durango, CO.

You will board the train at Rockwood Station for your journey to Cascade Canyon.  Sit back, relax and expect to be amazed as you wind through steep mountain canyons and the high mountain curves of the pristine San Juan National Forest.

Steam Train Fares:

Coach:  Adult (age 12+) $81*   Child (age 4-11) $57*
Gondola:  Adult (age 12+) $86*  Child (age 4-11) $62*
*plus 8% historical preservation fee

Except for special events, children under 4 years old not occupying a seat ride FREE.

Driving Directions To Rockwood Station:  Rockwood Station is located on County Road 200, 18 miles north of Durango.  From Durango, travel north on US Highway 550 and look for signage directing you to turn right on County Road 200 where you will travel approximately 1 mile to Rockwood Station and adjacent parking area. If driving south from Silverton, turn left on CR 200 just south of the Tamarron/Glacier Club entrance.

Pre-Paid Parking Passes are REQUIRED for parking at Rockwood Station due to limited spaces.  Parking Passes are available online. Cost is $8.  If you are driving to Rockwood, you must reserve parking in advance.  Due to touchless payment, you will not be able to pay for parking the day of excursion. There are no off-property or other public spaces available for parking at Rockwood. We can not accommodate trailers due to restricted space.

There will be a stationary concession car located at Rockwood Station but no food services will be available on the train.
No wilderness access will be provided off of this departure.

Important Note:  There is no smoking anywhere at the Rockwood Station except in a closed personal vehicle.  And once guests board the train, there is no smoking during the entire trip.

Be sure to visit the FREE Roundhouse Museum located at 479 Main Avenue in Durango.

  • Customers not interested in rebooking: We will AUTOMATICALLY PROCESS A FULL REFUND FOR YOU and you will not need to contact us to cancel; you should see the refund on your credit card in about 10 business days.
