Ride a 'Work Train'! Ride along in a caboose or the passenger section of a historic 'mixed train' to experience and photograph some of the work required to maintain the Right of Way of track first laid in 1881. Demonstrations may include pulling ties and spiking new ties, dumping ballast, lifting and lining with the tamper and regulator, unloading the excavator and dozer or other projects as needed. Besides detraining to observe the Maintenance of Way staff doing their work, you'll have an opportunity to see and photograph the Galloping Goose 5 as it passes on the main line while the Work Train is on a siding. Plan on some special 'run-bys' of our Work Train too! (Passengers detrain and the train backs up out of sight. With a couple of long whistles, it will come forward and run by the photo line.)

Fare includes soft drink, water and lunch. Durango’s CJ’s Catering will be providing fresh boxed lunches for your trip. Lunches come in a choice of Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef or Vegetarian Sandwich and include fruit, chips and a cookie. Lunches will be served during the stop at Cascade Canyon. They will be handed out on a first come, first served basis. Bottled water and canned soda are also included in your lunch. If you have any medical or dietary concerns, we suggest that you bring your own or additional food, snacks and beverages.   MOW laying rail

The one-way excursion from Silverton to Durango includes a filling boxed lunch, soft drink, a tour of the 1906 Tacoma Power Plant and numerous photo run-bys so that you can capture your memories in a photograph to share your experience.

Silverton’s Brown Bear Café will be providing fresh boxed lunches for your trip to Durango.  Available options include Turkey Swiss Wrap, Roast Beef Wrap or Veggie Wrap. All lunches include chips, an apple and a cookie and will be served during the stop at Cascade Canyon. They will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.
