Goose 5Waddle up the tracks just like they did in the first part of the 20th century carrying mail, groceries and passengers during the waning days of operations on the Rio Grande Southern!
This one-way excursion from Durango to Silverton includes a delicous boxed lunch, soft drink, a tour of the 1906 Tacoma Power Plant and numerous photo run-bys so that you can capture your memories in photographs to share your experience with your family and friends!

Durango’s CJ’s Catering will be providing fresh boxed lunches for your trip. Lunches come in a choice of Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef or Vegetarian Sandwich and include fruit, chips and a cookie. Lunches will be served during the stop at Cascade Canyon. They will be handed out on a first come, first served basis. Bottled water and canned soda are also included in your lunch. If you have any medical or dietary concerns, we suggest that you bring your own or additional food, snacks and beverages.

You can choose to make your own accommodations to stay overnight in Silverton, or you can purchase a ticket to return to Durango on a bus leaving Silverton at 4:30pm.

Double-Header Passenger TrainDouble header train

The passenger train that pulls out of the Durango station will use two locomotives to pull the train to Silverton. Due to safety regulations, the locomotives will hook up in the Animas Valley before they begin the climb up Hermosa Hill. The helper engine in the front will uncouple at Rockwood before going onto the highline and recouple after crossing the  High Bridge.
