The Cascade Canyon Winter Train is now boarding! Don’t miss out, this unforgettable excursion whisks passengers to and from the Cascade Canyon offering grandiose views of the Animas River, snowclad peaks, and crisp mountain air. Spanning 26 miles each way, this 5-hour round trip experience is offered throughout weekends in January and February, with midweek dates becoming available in March and April. We recommend reserving your trip in advance online to assure the seats you want.
Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River while relaxing in heated coaches. Cascade Canyon is a destination like no other and is the perfect setting for a fire-side lunch, photo opportunities or a walk along the Animas River during your 45-minute layover. All trains have a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Due to San Juan Basin Health restrictions, all drinks and snacks must be consumed on one of the open-air gondolas on the train or in the pavilion at Cascade Canyon.
This 5-hour round-trip excursion departs from the Durango Depot at 9:30 am and returns at 2:30 pm.
