Travel in an open-air gondola and be even closer to the sights and sounds of this historic adventure. Bench-style seating facing out accommodates ten across. Because of the unpredictable mountain climate and the increase in elevation from Durango to Silverton, we strongly encourage you to dress in layers of clothing. Silverton (9305′) usually averages about 10 degrees cooler than Durango (6512′). Sunglasses are highly recommended to protect eyes from possible cinders in the air. Safety glasses are available for purchase in the gift shop and onboard the train.
