Silverton Overnight Adventure Package
June 6 through October 2, 2016
This package is over for the 2016 season but please keep it in mind for the 2017 season!
Have it YOUR way! Ride the train to Silverton, get settled in the Grand Imperial Hotel and choose from an evening, morning or mid-day adventure before heading back to Durango the following day by train or bus!
Adventure awaits you for your overnight trip to Silverton. Starting at the Durango Depot, pick up your tickets and drop off your luggage at our Ticket Office and let your mountian adventure begin! Starting with your choice of Standard or First-class train tickets to Silverton, upon your arrival in Silvverton you will be welcomed at the Grand Imperial Hotel where your luggage will already be placed in your room.
Once you are ready to roll, your San Juan Backcounty guides will take you on your choice of three great tours.
1) A late afternoon 4x4 tour into the Silverton mountains is a perfect time to see wildlife and the waning sun.
2) For the early riser, an early morning 4x4 tour in the crisp, mountain air will open up some spectacular views and there are great opportunities to see the wildlife as they are most active in the early morning!
3) Midday Silverton Ghost Tour to Animas Forks. A ghost town since the 1920s, it had a population of 450 during its heyday of 1883. It sits comfortably at 11,200' elevation and is the best preserved town along the mostly 4-wheel drive Alpine Loop dirt road.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR:
You will be reaching elevations near 11,000' where snow is not uncommon even in July! Bring clothing to dress in layers including warm jacket and a hat. Sunglasses and sunscreen are highly recommended. You'll want to get out and explore at some of the stops, so please wear sturdy shoes suitable for climbing around backcountry areas. Water will be provided but is not always accessible while you're in the vehicle. We recommend bringing along your own personal bottle of water. And of course bring your camera and lots of battery power and cards to store the memories you'll create on this trip!
If you are bringing children: You must bring your own car seats for children who require them on the jeep trail tour; the tour operator does not provide any. The Colorado Car Seat Law states children up to 8 years must be in an appropriate car seat/booster seat.
